From the south you can travel either on the A40 or the M4. The M4 gives two alternatives, over the River Severn (toll to pay westward) or across country. Time wise there is not much in it, it very much depends on what day and time you travel.
A40 route:
- A40 to Ross-on-Wye
- * Continue on A40 - sign posted Monmouth
- Right onto A49 towards Hereford
- Turn left onto B4348 - sign posted Hay-on-Wye (this road passes over both the A466 and A465 - both are dog leg junctions - right then left)
- ** Continue on this road to the village of Peterchurch
- Pass through the village and turn left at the Nag's Head Pub
- *** Over little bridge (River Dore). Hinton Green is the third house on the right hand side, it lays back from the road and has black railings.
River Severn route:
- Stay on M4 to J24 (toll payable westward)
- A449 to Raglan & Abergavenny
- At Raglan take A40 to Abergavenny
- Just outside Abergavenny pick up A465 to Hereford
- Continue on A465 to Pontrilas then turn left onto B4347
- Stay on this road (very winding) for about 8 miles until T junction.
- Then follow ** as above
Cross country route:
- Leave M4 at J15
- A419 to Cirencester
- A417 to Gloucester
- Right onto A40 to Ross-on-Wye
- Then follow * as above
From the north you can travel either along the motorways or across country.
Motorway route:
- M6 then M5 then M50 to Ross
- Then follow * as above
Cross country route:
- Follow A49 to Leominster
- A4112 then A438 towards Hay-on-Wye
- At Clyro turn right onto the B4351
- At Hay-on-Wye follow the B4348 taking a right hand turn at Harwicke and follow signs to Dorstone and Peterchurch
- On the outskirts of Peterchurch turn right at the Nags Head
- Then follow *** as above
